Old Vessel... New Vessel... Same Clay...

Old Vessel... New Vessel... Same Clay...

Let us go to the Potter's house.
Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. (Jeremiah 18:3,4).

In the verses that follow the interpretation of the Potter is given to God... and the vessel is Israel. The lesson to be learned here is God never mends what man has marred. The vessel will be made new from the same clay. A new nation will be substituted for Israel Matt. 21:43. A New Israel... Giving them a new spirit, and write His law in their hearts. "Another vessel as seemed good to the potter to make it." This is God's own interpretation of how He works with His creation.

This application not only applies to Israel but all His creation.

The Covenant (Deut. 6:25)... marred (Jer. 31:32)... The New Covenant (Heb. 8:7-13). The Covenant God made with Israel "which my covenant they brake," He says. God will not mend it but makes a new Covenant. (Heb. 8:7-13; 10:16 compare to Jer. 31:33,34).

The Ordinances marred (Isa. 1:11-14)... The Ordinances New (Heb. 10:6-9; Col. 2:14,17; Gal. 4:3,8-11). The Sacrifices as ordained by God were marred in the making. "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins." A new and living way has been made and opened by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ -- once for all. "Lo, I come to do Thy will, O God. He taketh away the first that He may establish the second." The second is the new vessel (Heb. 10:1-23).

Priesthood (Heb. 7:11-28) The priests failed. [The High Priest has come, there will be no other].

King (2 Sam. 7:12-16). The kings failed. [The anointed of God, the King has come, there will be no other].

Man, marred (Gen. 3; Rom. 8:7; Jer. 17:9; Ps. 14:2; 53:2; John 3:6)... The New Man (2 Cor. 5:17,18). Man became marred by the Fall became alienated from the life of God (Rom. 5:12-21; Eph. 2:1-3; 4:17-19). God does not reform the natural man but makes "a new man"... "A new creation , in Christ" (2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 2:10)... And bestows a new nature and gives a new spirit.

The Body marred (Gen. 3; Heb. 9:27)... The New Body 1 Cor. 15:35, 44, 46, 47). We, made in the image of Elohim, capable of living forever, became mortal and marred through the Fall, made subject to death through sin. God has prepared for His people "another" body. A "house not made with hands," a "house from heaven." re-made, in resurrection, like Christ's own body of glory (2 Cor. 4:14:5:2; Phil. 3:20,21). Then, and only then, will "mortality be swallowed up of life" (2 Cor. 5:4). What kind of body will be given us? "God giveth it a body as it hath pleased Him" (1 Cor. 15:54).

The Heaven and Earth marred (Gen. 3; 2 Peter 3:7)... The New Heaven and Earth (2 Peter 3:13). This earth came under the curse, "the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together unto now" (Rom. 8:22). "According to His promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth" (2 Peter 3:13).

The Church marred (2 Tim. 1:15; 2:18; 3:8; 4:3,4)... The New Church (Eph. 2:20-22; 4:4). Speaking of the Church: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; ... shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ... they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables" (2 Tim. 4:3,4). "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame." (Heb. 6:4-6). Meaning those who believe in Christ as Messiah and Lord and then return to Judaism. Scripture says: "ye are fallen from grace" (Gal. 5:4).

And this marred process continues even today. The marred church will be replaced (in the process now) with the NEW church "In Whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit (Eph. 2:22). There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (Eph. 4:4).

Therefore leaving the principles (the milk 1 Pet.2:2) of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on onto perfection (the meat); (Heb. 1:1,2 [5:12]). Scripture says "go on" meaning, be borne along; the instructor being the Holy Spirit.

God Bless,

Eve
